The Delaware Law Enforcement Memorial at Legislative Mall is vandalized, and Dover Police investigating already say they are confident the damage was not done by a recent protestor.
The memorial was damaged by a suspect with an axe. When Dover police arrived at the scene early Friday morning, they found significant damage to the neck of the kneeling office statue.
Officers also found two State of Delaware flags laid in front of the statue and soaked in urine. The axe used to damage the memorial was also left behind.
Dover Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Mark Hoffman emphasizes the department is sure this is not the result of recent protests.
"Our early findings in this investigation does not suggest that anyone affiliated with the protest activity that we've seen throughout Dover in the last 10 to 12 days is affiliated with this incident," said Hoffman. So, I do want to be very clear with that."
Hoffman wouldn’t comment if any cameras in the area caught the vandalism as it took place.
If anyone has any information on this incident is asked to contact Dover Police at (302) 736-7130 or if you can call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
A cash reward of up to $1,000 is possible for information leading to an arrest.
