Threat of winter weather leads to some school closings, delays

The wintry weather has yet to arrive in the First State this morning, but the expected change over from rain to snow is prompting schools to delay opening.The heaviest snow is anticipated in northern New Castle County where

Appoquinimink, Brandywine, Christina, Colonial, New Castle Vo-tech and Red Clay School Districts have all closed after initially announcing a two hour delay.

The University of Delaware’s main Newark campus and other New Castle County locations are opening at 11am.  Goldey-Beacom College is also opening at 11am.  Delaware Tech’s Stanton and Wilmington campuses will open at noon. All Wilmington University campuses - except Georgetown - will open at noon.

There’s also some government entities affected by the weather.

The U.S. District and Bankruptcy Courts in Wilmington will open late at 10 a.m.

The City of Newark will open at 10:30 Thursday morning.
