DelDOT reports less toll traffic, revenue over Labor Day weekend

Fewer motorists drove through Delaware’s toll plazas over the Labor Day weekend, according to data from the Delaware Department of Transportation.

Labor Day weekend saw just over 888,000 drivers pass through the First State’s three major toll plazas on I-95 and Route 1. That’s about 52,000 less than 2015’s four-day holiday weekend.

DelDOT reports a decline in revenue to go along with fewer motorists, down $200,000 from last year to $2.4 million.

This year the busiest toll plaza was the I-95 stop in Newark, which reported over 395,000 drivers. Route 1 in Dover saw 247,000 and Route 1 at Biddles Corner saw 245,000.

Still more drivers hit the tolls this year than in 2014, when just 860,000 motorists were counted.
