New Castle County Council President Chris Bullock will not seek re-election.
Pastor and founder of a Baptist church in New Castle, Bullock says he needs to focus more on growing his congregation and on expanding the church’s physical footprint.
The announcement released Thursday afternoon also says he wants to spend more time with his family.
Bullock was the first elected black New Castle County Council President in 2012 and is currently the highest-ranking black elected official in the state.
Democrat Karen Hartley-Nagle is currently the only candidate running for the seat.
