Delaware under a code orange air quality alert

Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has issued a code orange air-quality alert meaning air pollution concentrations may become unhealthy for sensitive groups - children; people with asthma, heart disease or lung diseases; and the elderly.

Ozone is expected to reach unhealthy levels today and residents are advised to avoid strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.

An upwind air mass is increasing pollutant level and smoke from fires in Canada will also raise particulate matter concentrations and enhance ozone formation.

Friday is predicted to be the same, with some improvement expected on Saturday.
