DelDOT prepares for what could be biggest snowstorm of the season

Delaware Public Media

The First State is bracing for what experts predict could be the biggest snowstorm this winter. Snowfall could range from six to ten inches, and could last from midnight til 8pm Thursday. Snow should be heavier in New Castle and Kent Counties.

Officials at DelDot say they are are busy fixing trucks and readying plows to hit the roads, but haven’t yet salted roads because of rain.

DelDOT’s Mark Alexander says both the morning and evening commutes could be messy and dangerous with this storm.

"We would encourage drivers to all be careful, keep a good space from other vehicles, give our drivers plenty of room, stay away from the truck’s spreading equipment," he advises.

Alexander adds that although facing back-to-back storms this week is placing stress on DelDOT’s resources, the agency is in fairly good shape, having only used a relatively small percentage of their rock salt in previous weather events.
