Delle Donne sits as U.S. women's hoop team continue dominant Olympic run

The U.S. Women’s basketball team rolls on at the Summer Olympics in Rio, but did so Sunday without Elena Delle Donne.

Delle Donne sat out yesterday’s 105-62 win over China after being hit below her right eye by teammate Tamika Catchings in pregame warm-ups.  She suffered swelling and blurred vision, prompting trainers to keep her on the bench.

The former University of Delaware and Ursuline Academy star says the injury is not serious and she expects to play in Tuesday’s quarterfinal against Japan.

The reigning WNBA MVP is averaging 8.5 points and nearly three rebounds coming off the bench for Team USA – which finished pool play 5-0.

The U.S women’s field hockey team, featuring Delawareans Caitlin Van Sickle and Katelyn Falgowski, plays its Olympic quarterfinal Monday – facing Germany.
