First wave of Firefly fans arrive in First State

The music doesn’t start until Thursday, but the first of the estimated 90,000 thousand fans coming to this year’s Firefly Festival have started to arrive in Dover.

Hundreds of cars, campers and RV’s were line-up Wednesday morning waiting for check in to begin at noon for early bird campers.

One fan who said his name was Justin made the trip down for Philadelphia.  He says he and about 40 others will be camping as a group and so getting on site earlier made sense.

A lot of us don’t have jobs that require [being there] seven days a week or five days a week – so we took off Wednesday to get here early and get our camp set up so tomorrow we can just enjoy the concert,” he said.

Also among those biding their time Wednesday morning were Anthony Schafer of Lancaster, Pa. and his 10-year-old daughter Gwen.  Anthony says showing up early - if you can - makes sense

We don’t really feel like sitting in terrible traffic. Now, we’ve haven’t been her before, but from what I’ve read it’s rather confusing," said Schafer.

Anthony adds its great to be at an event he and his daughter can enjoy together.  He’s here to see Morrissey while Gwen’s looking forward to seeing Bastille, Echosmith and Zedd.

"My dad asked me and I thought I would hate it so much – but I’m really excited," said Gwen.

Non-early bird campers can start arriving Thursday morning at 6 am.

Music begins Thursday afternoon with a three acts – including Dover hip-hop trio Cypher Clique hitting the stage at 5:30 pm.  Paul McCartney headlines Friday’s bill with Kings of Leon and The Killers featured Saturday and Sunday.
