AstraZeneca sells Fairfax campus for $50 million

Delaware Public Media

After being on the market for nearly a year, AstraZeneca sold its U.S. headquarters in Fairfax to a local developer.

The $50 million deal between AstraZeneca and Delle Donne Associates closed late last month.

AstraZeneca will lease back a portion of the campus off U.S. 202 while upgrading the office space.

The pharmaceutical giant put its U.S. headquarters up for sale last year, saying the move would save the company money.

Delle Donne Associates, run by the family of WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne, has developed and own some of Delaware’s most high profile office space, including the STAR campus at University of Delaware.

Worldwide, AstraZeneca brought in $23 billion in 2016, while cutting 120 jobs in Delaware – part of 700 layoffs in December.

The company still employs about 1,500 people in the First State.
