The Rehoboth Art League (RAL) hosts a series of five new exhibitions, debuting at its galleries Friday.
And the Art League’s executive director Sara Ganter is anxious to welcome people to see them.
“May is always a big time for us, because we officially open a couple of more buildings on campus, including the Historic Homestead," said Ganter. "So we do have a special exhibition of collection pieces in there, which depict springtime. So it’s perfect for this time of year.”
Mentors and Makers opens Friday in the Corkran Gallery, pairing the fine arts faculty of Salisbury University with a current or former student. The exhibition also includes a living greenhouse in the Gallery.
The Tubbs Gallery features Meltdown, from a collective of six encaustic artists who work with wax in the D.C. area.
Preservation Month, celebrated during the month of May, is recognized in RAL’s annual Preservation Matters exhibition in the Marcia and Henry DeWitt Gallery. This year, the league’s theme is portraiture, and the organization has selected several historic pieces from its collection, each in need of professional conservation. Patrons are encouraged to ‘adopt’ a piece of artwork by sponsoring the cost of its preservation.
And the Peter Marsh Homestead opens for the 2021 season with Springtime at the Homestead, selected works from the Permanent Collection that convey the league’s historic property as a source of inspiration for artists through the years.
The galleries are free and open to the public seven days a week, and RAL follows local and CDC health and safety guidelines.
The Rehoboth Art League is located at 12 Dodds Lane, in Henlopen Acres. Gallery hours are 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.
