October is National Arts and Humanities Month. And Delaware Humanities is hosting a Yorklyn Storytelling Festival this weekend to celebrate:
The festival is part of Delaware Humanities’ mission to provide educational outreach, special projects and funding opportunities that bring Delawareans together.
The organization’s executive director Michele Anstine says it features a lineup of storytellers in the spoken-word - equivalent of a major music or arts festival, “There are going to be nine national storytellers, who will be performing both at the beginning of the Festival - the kickoff on the 18th - and also on Sunday - at the end of the Festival."
That line-up includes Delaware’s own Twin Poets - brothers - Nnamdi Chukwuocha and Albert Mills.
Anstine notes that the Festival will also offer workshops, “And I think that that’s sort of - it’s not a unique approach. It is something that I think from our point of view as humanity supporters and champions...I think that it’s a way for the public who is here in Delaware, to learn a little bit about the storytelling art.”
Anstine adds that the Yorklyn Storytelling Festival is a family-friendly event. The event starts Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019 at the Center for the Creative Arts (CCSArts).
