Je Christine coming to the Milton Theatre for fundraiser

Submitted Photo

The true-life story of Europe’s first professional female author come to life in Milton this week.

Suzanne Savoy, a professional film and television actress and educator, is in Delaware to perform Je Christine at the Milton Theatre.

Savoy says the show focuses on the life and works of Christine de Pizan.

“She was an Italian woman whose family moved to France when she was about 5-years-old. And at the age of 25, Christine was widowed - she had three small children and no way to make a living. The crown took away her husbands’ properties that they used as rentals," Savoy said.

The show is a 90 minute solo performance by Savoy, notes Je Christie is a story of loss and success.

“She was sought after by Kings to be their Court writer; she wrote about misogyny and in defense of women’s fair representation in literature and women up to that time were portrayed as sluts and as materialistic and as everything that was wrong with the world,” said Savoy.

The show is at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Milton Theatre and is a benefit for the theater’s capital campaign. You can buy tickets here.

You can also watch a short video of the show here.
