The Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts will soon have a new curator.Jackie Milad will join the organization next week as its new Gretchen Hupfel Curator of Contemporary Art.

Milad will be the first woman of color to hold the position.

DCCA Executive Director John Shipman said that Milad is a “get” for the institution because of her years of experience and commitment to serving the public.

"She’s already been a captain of that ship, I mean, she’s an innovator," he said.

She comes to the museum from the University of Maryland where she was the director of the Stamp Gallery. Milad also co-founded the transmodern Festival, a performance art and experimental media festival based in Baltimore, which has run for the last twelve years.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
