Delaware has confirmed its first case of flu for the 2015 season.

The Division of Public Health reports a 26-year-old New Castle County man went to the emergency room after falling sick with the virus. He was not hospitalized and is now recovering at home.

The DPH says the man contracted the 'A' strain of the virus, one of two they're warning about this year.

Another flu season is beginning and Delaware’s Division of Public Health is urging residents to prepare by getting a flu shot.

"It's the best protection," said DPH director Dr. Karyl Rattay.

Delaware has now officially reported more cases of the flu this year than 2009-2010, when the state experienced an outbreak of the notorious “swine flu.”

The state Division of Public Health now says it has confirmed 2,309 cases of flu in Delaware. That’s more than the yearly total for the 2009-2010 season, which saw 2,247.
