The Music School of Delaware in Wilmington employs nearly 100 educators and provides by-audition students a full symphony experience with the Delaware Youth Symphony Orchestra. The young ensemble will present their annual Spring concert on March 14th when the 70- plus member orchestra will perform among other pieces, selections from “West Side Story.”

George Thorogood is coming home to Delaware. The 1968 Brandywine High School graduate plays Tuesday at The Grand Opera House in his hometown of Wilmington.

Thorogood has fond memories of growing up in the First State, including playing his first ever gig with his band the Destroyers at the University of Delaware.  The band’s long time drummer Jeff Simon booked their inaugural show at Lane Hall, a dormitory on UD’s Newark campus.

Opera comes to the beach this weekend

Opera singer Andrea Arena made her professional debut at Opera Delaware shortly after graduating from the University of Delaware.

She has since performed in such productions as “Madame Butterfly,” “La Travita” and “Carmen” for opera companies from New York City to Des Moines.

On Sunday, the Delawarean will display her powerful voice in Rehoboth Beach for a benefit concert for the Italian American service organization, UNICO.  The program will include classical Italian music, opera selections and sacred music followed by a reception.

235 employees of Delaware state agencies and their families submitted artwork for the fourth annual State Employee Exhibition and Contest.

The participating artists came from across the state and region and 21 were recognized for their excellence and chosen to exhibit at Delaware State University’s Arts Center and Gallery.

Delaware Division of the Arts Deputy Director Kristen Pleasanton, says the event provides state employees an opportunity to share their artistic talent.
