The DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor Reserve will host two programs highlighting World Shorebirds Day - an annual September 6th event celebrating shorebirds around the globe.

World Shorebirds Day highlights the need to protect shorebirds and their habitats, while raising public awareness about ongoing shorebird research, monitoring and conservation efforts.

The DuPont Nature Center’s programs are this Saturday, and next Wednesday on World Shorebirds Day.

The Center will offer a Mispillion Harbor Shorebirds Presentation and Birding Trip Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. Visitors can learn about the most common shorebirds that visit Mispillion Harbor and join DNREC biologists on a shorebird trip from the DuPont Nature Center to Slaughter Beach.  A new shorebird exhibit with carvings by a local artist will also be unveiled.

Wednesday’s event features DNREC Shorebird Biologist Audrey DeRose-Wilson discussing shorebirds that visit Delaware each year in a  presentation from 1 to 2 p.m.

The DuPont Nature Center is located on Lighthouse Road, near Slaughter Beach, east of Milford.
