Potter Trust accepting grant applications in Kent County

Nonprofit organizations helping those in need in Kent County can get a financial boost through the Delaware Community Foundation, which is accepting applications for Potter Trust grants.

The application period for Potter Trust Grants to aid the economically underprivileged in Kent County is now open.

Nonprofit organizations that support those in need in Kent County can apply for Potter Trust grants through the Delaware Community Foundation (DCF).

“The Potter Trust itself is one of the oldest active trusts in the country and was established in 1843 for this purpose and has been giving money to the needy in the county ever since. This fund is always designed to serve the needy and so it will continue to do so,” said DCF president and CEO Stuart Comstock Gay.

He notes that the grants support proposals for charitable organizations and program activities.

“And that’s targeted on emergency assistance for basic needs - on homlessness, on hunger and on healthcare,” said Comstock Gay

He says the Trust will award an estimated $320,000 this year to qualified 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations.

Grant requests must be submitted by June 30, 2021. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by late summer.

Last year, The Potter Trust distributed $290,000 to 13 organizations, including $20,000 to the Central Delaware Housing Collaborative/House of Hope Women’s Shelter to implement the New Horizons Financial Assistance Program.

$25,000 went to the Harry K Foundation to expand its food pantry backpack program.

$15,000 to the YMCA of Delaware to expand food service for children and families in need at its Kent County locations and $15,000 to Code Purple Kent County for its four homeless shelters.

Hope Medical Dental Clinic also received $20,000 to help provide dental and medical services to low income residents.
