More jobs are coming to Delaware over the next 18-months as one of the largest motor carriers in North America expands its operations in the First State.
Old Dominion Freight Line is a less-than-truckload motor carrier that provides regional, inter-regional and national service.
“They are choosing to expand their operations in Delaware, which is very exciting," said Megan Kopistecki, business development manager for the Delaware Prosperity Partnership (DPP) which leads the state’s economic development efforts. "They currently have two facilities in Delaware - two service centers - they have one in Southern Delaware in Bridgeville. And then they have one in Northern Delaware in New Castle.”
Kopistecki says Old Dominion employs 64 people and is outgrowing that New Castle service center. It’s planning a new site in Bear, and to add 20 more jobs over the next three years.
“They like Delaware and they wanted to stay in Delaware and thankfully, if looks like they’ve been able to find a site in Delaware to build this new facility, said Kopistecki .
Kopistecki notes these logistics and distribution jobs pay up to $28/hour.
The state is prepared to give Old Dominion capital and job performance grants totaling $394,500 from the Delaware Strategic Fund to support the company’s plans.
Old Dominion is already under contract on the new site and expects to have the new facility up and running within 18 to 24 months.
