DNREC fines MEDAL Air Liquide for pollution

DNREC

The State of Delaware is penalizing MEDAL Air Liquide for air pollution.

Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control found the company’s Newport plant released an excess amount of volatile organic compounds.

DNREC initially flagged those emissions back in May of last year.

Further investigation revealed between August of 2016 and July 2018, MEDAL Air Liquide emitted a total of about 1.74 tons of those compounds beyond what is allowed by its permit.

DNREC is fining the company $80,000.  It will also pay $4,000 for the cost of the investigation.

DNREC Secretary Shawn Garvin’s Notice of Conciliation and Administrative Penalty Assessment Order to MEDAL Air Liquide lays out a schedule for the company to return to compliant emission levels. This includes construction of a new thermal oxidizer meant to control emissions while allowing the company to expand production.
