Delaware sees 11 new COVID-19 deaths, new case numbers low again

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Delaware announced a double digit rise in COVID-19 related deaths Thursday, while other coronavirus numbers remain low.

11 more people have died after testing positive for the virus. The state’s death toll is now 386 since the pandemic began.

The latest victims were between 66 to 92. Eight lived in Sussex County and three were Kent County residents. All 11 had underlying health conditions and nine lived at long-term care facilities.

State health officials also report 34 new cases Thursday taking the total since March 11th  to 9,746. The state added just 27 new cases Wednesday.

A Dept. of Health and Social Servies spokesperson says state health officials do not have "an exact cause and effect" for the low numbers in recent days, but noted and uptick could be seen Friday.

The five day average of people testing positive is still trending down, sitting just below five percent, and the five day average of new positive cases is edging down as of Wednesday.

Current hospitalizations continue their steady decrease, down 11 to 142 statewide. 28 people are critically-ill.

And 69 more Delawareans are considered recovered from the virus – pushing that total to 5,562.
