Latino communities in First State are getting a financial boost.
The Arsht-Cannon Fund (ACF) has awarded another round of grants aimed at improving access to quality educational programs and services for Latino families in Delaware.
The fund is managed by the Delaware Community Foundation (DCF) - and the foundation’s president Stuart Comstock-Gay, says these latest grants invest $592,000 in that effort.
“They’ve provided grants that support collaborative programs, particularly in Sussex County. There’s something called La Colectiva, which is based in La Esperanza - and a variety of youth and family programs there. They’re looking at language learning up and down the State - a variety of grants in Kent and Sussex and New Castle libraries,” he said.
Comstock-Gay notes that the Arsht-Cannon Fund has been focused on this misson for some time now.
“For over a dozen years they have been focusing almost exclusively on issues affecting the Latino community in Delaware, which is incredibly important," he said. "They are the funder that has had the greatest attention to the needs of that community as people more fully integrate into Delaware life.”
Comstock-Gay says since 2007, the Arsht-Cannon Fund has invested more than $9 million dollars to expand and improve education opportunities and access to healthcare for Latino families across the State.
