AAA says growing holiday travel trends likely to continue in Delaware

AAA Mid-Atlantic is forecasting another busy holiday for travel in the First State.

The automotive insurance agency is expecting holiday travel trends to continue in Delaware as gas prices remain low and the economy continues to grow.

Delaware has seen record travel this year.  More than 124,000 Delaware residents voyaged more than 50 miles from their home during the Fourth of July weekend and more than 147,000 did the same during Thanksgiving weekend.

AAA Regional Director Jim Lardear says this year’s Christmas holiday will be no exception.

“With the travel volume, expect it to increase,” said Lardear. “The roadways are going to be crowded. The airports are going to be crowded. So, really, if you’re traveling be sure to pack your patience and give yourself enough time to reduce the stress and get where you’re going.”

As temperatures drop, Lardear also encourages Delawareans to make sure their vehicle is in order before heading out.

“We want to make sure that motorists are checking their batteries, checking their tires and just being prepared for that drive. We don’t want you to get stranded on the roadway,” said Lardear. “That’s going to dampen your holiday spirits”

AAA anticipates it will have to rescue more than 62,000 stranded Delawareans over the course of the winter.
