GOP candidate for State Auditor drops out

Republicans are again looking for someone to run for State Auditor

A week after launching her campaign, Joan Winters has dropped out.

Winters cited family as the reason for ending her first bid for political office.

"My family is the single most important thing to me, and the unanticipated rigors of a statewide campaign far exceed what I expected leaving me little time for the ones I love most. For that reason, I have decided not to run for State Auditor," said Winters in her statement.

The current State Auditor, Republican Tom Wagner, is retiring after serving 30 years in the office.

A trio of Democrats are running to replace him.

Kathy McGuiness, Dennis E.Williams and Kathleen Davies will face of in a Democratic primary in September.
