Gov. Carney names nominee for State Supreme Court

Gov. John Carney announced his nominee Monday to fill the latest vacancy on the Delaware Supreme Court.

Gary F. Traynor is the governor’s pick to replace Justice Randy J. Holland - who retired in March.

In a statement, Carney called Traynor “one of Delaware’s sharpest legal minds,”  with the judgment and thoughtfulness needed to serve on the state’s highest court.

Since January 2015, Traynor has served as an Assistant Public Defender. He holds an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and earned his law degree at the Delaware Law School at Widener University.

Traynor practiced law at Prickett, Jones & Elliot in Wilmington from 1990 to 2014.

During much of that period, Traynor practiced general litigation that included criminal defense, personal injury lawsuits and domestic abuse disputes.

He also spent more than a decade of that period litigating corporate and commercial legal disputes.

The Delaware Senate has to approve the nomination.
