Kent County wants your advice for next 10-year plan

Delaware Public Media

Kent County wants your advice on transportation, land planning and economic development decisions.

The county is hosting three community workshops this week that will shape its next 10-year Comprehensive Plan.

The public input at these workshops will shape the direction of the county for the next 10 years, according to Sarah Keifer, director of planning for Kent County.

“We haven’t written a word of the plan. Not one word. So this is very much the beginning,” Keifer said.

If you attend the workshops you’ll be asked to participate in interactive exercises. The exercises are designed to gather more useful feedback that open-ended questions would.

“We give everyone a map of the county. And we ask them ‘where would you put new development? Where would you put a park? Where would you like to see new commercial development?’” Keifer said.

The county uses what it learn from these exercises and online surveys to draft its next 10-year plan.

“Based on the surveys we put out we’re seeing a lot of interest in connectivity and better access to parks and recreation,” said Keifer.

The county is also seeing a lot more concern about job growth and economic development.

Workshops begin each night at 6:00.
