First State and Nevada launch multi-state online poker venture

Delaware Public Media

Gov. Jack Markell (D-Delaware) and Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval (R-Nevada) announced Wednesday the start of the Multi-State Poker Network.

The network allows players in the two states to play compete against one another at the same virtual tables. Before yesterday players could only play across state lines in unregulated games operated by illegal offshore sites. Those black market sites have no standards for protection of personal or financial information or ways to punish bad actors.

While the Multi-State Poker Network currently only supports Delaware and Nevada -- two states with a combined population of less than 4 million people -- the system was created with the possibility of other states joining down the line.

The network has been over a year in the making.  Delaware and Nevada signed an agreement to develop it back in February 2014.
