Christina School District names next superintendent

Delaware Public Media

The Christina School District has tapped a Pennsylvania education administrator with Delaware roots as its next superintendent.

The Christina School Board voted to hire Richard Gregg for the post. The longtime educator and administrator most recently served as Assistant Superintendent for the Penn-Delco School District in Aston, Pennsylvania.

Christina School Board President Elizabeth Paige said they chose Gregg based on his record of fiscal responsibility, student-focused approach and  knowledge of vocational-technical programs.

"So there’s not really a whole lot of vocational programs within the district, but there has been an interest in them," Paige said.

Paige added Gregg’s experience teaching in the New Castle County Vocational Technical School District will help lead Christina’s push to add vo-tech programs.

Gregg has degrees from both the University of Delaware and Wilmington University. He also graduated from Glasgow High School in the Christina School District.

Freeman Williams, the Christina School District's pervious superintendent, left in late 2015. The district has since relied on two acting superintendents in Robert Andrzejewski and Noreen LaSorsa.

The district and Gregg have yet to negotiate a start date and salary package.
