Rabid Raccoon bites Rehoboth Beach resident

Department of Public Health

Delaware’s Division of Public Health has confirmed a case of rabies in a raccoon who bit a person in the King’s Creek community in Rehoboth Beach last week.

The victim was doing holiday decorating in their yard when the rabid animal came out of the bushes and took a bite. The individual is being treated for the bite.

This marks the 17th case of rabies in an animal confirmed by DPH this year. Six of those animals bit someone.

Rabies is almost 100 percent preventable, but cannot be cured once symptoms appear.

DPH urges Delawareans to make sure their pets are up to date with their rabies vaccinations, and if anyone is bitten or scratched by a wild animal to seek immediate treatment.
