After two weeks of no-fly orders, officials at the Dover Air Force Base have cleared a team of large transport planes for takeoff.

All 18 of Dover’s C-5 Super Galaxy planes were grounded earlier this summer after a possible landing gear malfunction was discovered.

"My top priority is safety and readiness of our fleet," AMC Commander Gen. Carlton Everhart II said in a statement.

"Our Airmen are working deliberately and methodically at Dover and across the command to identify and resolve any issues impacting the C-5 fleet. We have put measures in place to ensure aircrew safety and reduce wear-and-tear on the aircraft."

This week he cleared five Dover Air Force Base Super Galaxy planes for use.

The remaining 13 planes are being inspected. There is no timeline for when they’ll be air-ready.

More than 200 airmen from Dover Air Force Base, as well as bases in Utah and Georgia, are assisting the repair effort.
