Delaware could see record high temps this week

Delaware Public Media

Those hoping for cool, crisp fall weather are dealing with unseasonably warm temperatures this week.

The National Weather Service predicts high temperatures in the mid 80s for Wednesday.

Meteorologist Lance Franck said the heat could set records in the First State.

He said Wilmington has a good chance to see high temperatures break a record set in the 1960's.

"The record is 81 degrees and we’re forecasting a high of 83," he said.

Georgetown could also see a record high of 84, breaking the previous record of 81 set in the 1950's.

Franck said a warm front moving over the Midwestern U.S. is to blame for the uncharacteristically hot fall weather.

It could be should be short lived though. A cool front is set to swoop through later this week.

Temps in the upper 70s are expected for Thursday.

But temperatures should dip into the low 60s or upper 50s this weekend, Franck said.

Average highs in the mid-60s are the norm for mid-October.
