Sussex County hit hardest by winter weather Friday

Delaware Public Media

Some areas in the First State had a bit more of an issue with Friday morning’s burst of winter weather.

Sussex County was hit hardest, with some spots seeing over three inches of snow and a handful of schools closing or opening late.

Laurel had the highest reported snow total, checking in with three and a half inches.

Some spots in southern Kent County, including Harrington saw just under three inches inches and Dover got a little more than two, but traffic issues were limited since roads largely remained wet.

Wilmington and most spots northern New Castle County received less than an inch.

A mix of rain and snow is in the forecast for the entire state Saturday night into Sunday but the National Weather Service is calling for no significant accumulation.  And next week, spring will be in the air with temperatures slated to rise into the 60s as early as Tuesday.
