Nearly 100 DUI arrests made in the First State last week

Delaware Public Media

Police made 97 arrests for driving under the influence in the First State last week.

Three people were arrested at DUI checkpoints run by New Castle County's DUI Task Force. Officers also made a drug arrest and apprehended a fugitive.

It brings the total number of DUI arrests made in Delaware this year to  just under 3900. In 2014, there were about 4100 DUI arrests statewide.

The monitoring at checkpoints is part of Checkpoint Strikeforce, a regional sobriety campaign that uses high- visibility checkpoints to arrest DUI offenders.

It's a six-month effort coordinated by the state Office of Highway Safety. Their next checkpoint is set for this Friday in Newark.
