First State gas prices still rising after a month

Delaware Public Media

The rise in First State gas prices isn’t letting up.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware jumped seven cents from $2.40 to $2.47.

Prices at the pump have been climbing for about a month, A month ago, the state average was 21 cents less at $2.26 per gallon. But it’s still over a dollar less than what First State motorists were paying a year ago at $3.67.

Delaware-gas-prices-dot-com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.39 or slightly less – mostly in New Castle County.

Delaware drivers are paying six cents below the national average, which rose 8 cents to $2.53 since last week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic officials say that increases in crude oil prices account for the increases drivers are seeing in Delaware. Officials add that prices could continue rising in the short term, due to crude oil prices, switchover to summer-blend gasoline and the busy summer driving season that’s coming up. However, AAA expects prices to wander lower as we approach summer.
