Neubauer named new DIAA chief

The governing body for scholastic sports in the First State has a new executive director.

Tommie Neubauer will take the reigns of the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA), replacing Kevin Charles.

Charles announced he’s retiring earlier this year.

Neubauer said in a statement he is "humbled and honored" to get the job.

I strongly believe in DIAA’s mission and the positive impact that interscholastic athletics has on students attending our member schools," said Neubauer in his statement. "Over the past decade DIAA has experienced tremendous growth and I pledge to work to continue to build on the growth created by the executive directors who preceded me."

Neubauer has been DIAA’s coordinator of officials and events since October 2005.  Before that he was Middletown High School’s athletic director for eight years.

Neubauer is only the 7th executive director since the organization’s was created in 1945.  He officially takes over July 11th.
