Rain dampens Friday NASCAR action in Dover

Karl Malgiero/Delaware Public Media

NASCAR did what it could to get things in Friday – despite less than ideal weather at Dover International Speedway.

Practice sessions on the Monster Mile were halted when rain intensified in the early afternoon.

And it persisted long enough to scuttle qualifying for Sunday’s Sprint Cup “AAA 400 Drive for Autism.”  That means the pole goes to the fastest car at morning practice, and that belonged to current points leader Kevin Harvick. Dale Earnhardt Junior will join Harvick on the front row.

The skies did clear in time for the Camping World Truck Series race.  Matt Crafton took the checkered flag.  He led 78 of the 200 laps to earn his first win this season -- and his first ever on the Monster Mile in Dover.
