NASCAR to bring two race weekends to Dover in 2017

Karl Malgiero/Delaware Public Media

The first of this year’s two NASCAR weekends in Delaware gets underway Thursday,  but Dover International Speedway already has reason to look ahead to next year.

The Monster Mile recently announced it is slated to host another pair of tripleheader weekends in 2017.

The 2017 spring weekend will be June 2 through June 4 and - like this weekend - will have a Friday Truck series race along with an XFINITY Series event Saturday and Sprint Cup cars racing on Sunday.

The 2017 fall weekend will run September 29 through October 1 will have a Friday K-&-N Pro Series East race in addition to XFINITY Series racing Saturday and a Sunday Sprint Cup race.

The fall Sprint Cup race will serve as the first “knockout race” in the 10-race Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship for a fourth straight year, with the championship field reduced from 16 to 12 drivers at the end of that third race in the playoff format.
