Attendance was up at this year’s Slam Dunk to the Beach at Cape Henlopen High School.
A total of 12,017 people came to check out the 18 game, three day tourney in Lewes - a slight jump from 10,000 people the Delaware Sports Commission says attended the event the year before.
And the Commission has announced that the tournament will return again in December 2016.
Chris Giacomucci, the commission’s Executive Director, says he didn’t know what to expect in Slam Dunk’s second year. He adds while he’s pleased with the turnout and excited to find ways to grow, he does want to be careful the tournament does not bite off more than it can chew.
This year’s event featured 3 nationally ranked high school teams and six from the First State.
The Delaware Sports Commission revived Slam Dunk to the Beach in 2014. It was discontinued in 2004 after the tournament organizer mishandled funds.
