Delaware’s unemployment rate drops again in July.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell for the fourth consecutive month hitting 4.8% after landing at 4.9% in June. This is the lowest level since July 2025.
And Delaware is now faring better when compared to other states nationwide.
In June, the state’s jobless rate was tied with Arizona with the 42nd lowest rate in the nation.
Back in January, Delaware was tied with California for the 49th lowest unemployment rate nationwide at 5.4%.
Area unemployment rates were mixed with slight drops in New Castle County and Wilmington, and a modest dip in Sussex County.
Dover, Newark and Middletown saw modest increases in their unemployment rate while Kent County’s was unchanged.
July’s national unemployment rate was 4.1% down from 4.2% in June.
But it isn’t all good news for Delaware as the seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment was 495,100 in July down from 496,200 in June.
The state’s total nonfarm jobs have seen a net loss of 200 since July 2025, a drop of less than one tenth of a percent. But nationally in the same period, the jobs growth rate increased by 0.2%.
Trade, Transportation and Utilities seeing a decline of 600 jobs and Leisure & Hospitality and Financial Activities dropped 300 jobs each in July from June.
On the plus side, Private Education & Health saw a 200 job increase.
