Gas prices continue to drop rapidly in First State

Delaware Public Media

Gas prices fell again in the First State over the past week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports Delaware drivers are paying $2.10 for a gallon of regular on average – down six cents from a week ago and 11 cents over the past two weeks.

It’s also a major savings from this time last year when prices at the pump went 81 cents higher - averaging $2.91.

Nationally, drivers saw the average price drop by a nickel, falling to $2.21 over the last seven days.

Delawaregasprices.com reports a dozen stations around the state selling gas for a $1.99 or less – although half of those are only offering that price if you’re paying in cash.  The majority of those stations selling for under two dollars a gallon are in New Castle County.

AAA officials say the drop in prices over the part couple of weeks is largely due to steadily declining crude oil prices.  They add that barring an unanticipated spike in those prices or unforeseen supply disruption they continue to project the national average for a gallon of regular dropping below $2.00 a gallon before the end of the year.  That hasn’t happened since 2009.
