Delaware’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose for second straight month – up a tenth of a point to 4.7 percent in June
About 500 new people got a job last month, but there was matching increase in the number of unemployed in the First State.
Delaware Labor Department officials note the state unemployment rate is still down by half a percentage point for the year – similar to the three tenths of a point drop in the jobless rate nationally. They add that’s occurred as Delaware has seen its labor force participation rate and proportion of residents employed both rise - while those numbers fell or were stagnant nationally.
The national unemployment rate stands at 5.3 percent.
Non-seasonally adjusted rates across the state rose across the board in June. New Castle County jumped eight-tenths of a point to 5.2 while Kent County was up six-tenths to 5.7. Sussex County inched up one tenth to 4.4 percent.
Wilmington’s non-seasonally adjusted jobless rate spiked nearly a point rising from 6.6 in May to 7.5 in June.
