Arts Playlist: 2020 Big Draw Festival

The 2020 Big Draw Festival is underway with events planned throughout October.

And in this week’s Arts Playlist, the festival’s chair Rosemary Connelly joins Delaware Public Media's Kelli Steele to discuss this year’s largely virtual event.

The City of Milford and MispillionArt League are teaming up again to make this local version of this event happen.

“We are part of the International celebration that actually began in the UK about the year 2000." said festival chair Rosemary Connelly. "And it’s now in 25 or more countries around the world celebrating drawing and artmaking. And the International organization are the ones that come up with the theme each year.”

And Connelly says the theme for 2020 has an environmental focus.

“The theme for this year is “A Climate of Change.”And it’s all about recycling and ecology, protecting the planet and all that good stuff,” said Connelly.

Connelly says that could mean building a robot with recycled materials, or taking a stroll and creating a photograph or sketch journal.

This year’s Festival is mostly virtual because of the coronavirus pandemic. But Connelly says a18 classes will be held at the Mispillion Art League with social distancing and masks required.

Sign up for those classes can be done at the Mispillion Arts Leaguewebsite.
