Music School of Delaware kicks-off its new season with “Opening Night - Celebrating the Legacy of Longwood.”";s:

The Music School of Delaware’s first performance of the 2019/2020 season is a “thank you” concert for its donors and the community.

“Opening Night - Celebrating the Legacy of Longwood” is Wednesday night at 7 o'clock at the Music School’s Wilmington Branch.

“This year we’re celebrating what we call “The Legacy of Longwood.” We have a long history at the Music School of Delaware - support from the Longwood Foundation, as do so many community organizations in our region. We are exceedingly grateful,” said Kate Ransom - the president and CEO of the Music School.

Ransom says the Music School received a Longwood Foundation grant in 2018 and the concert is one way to say thank you. It is a challenge grant, requiring the school to meet benchmarks each year over the 2-year period of the grant. The challenge grant is to secure NEW and INCREASED donations as follows: from current and former students/families of the school; from pacesetters donating at least $5000; and commitments to the Legacy for Music Society - those who will remember the school in their estate planning. Last year, donations to the school exceeded the benchmarks in each category. This year, the school will seek to do so again.

Ransom says Music School faculty’s chamber orchestra and special guest artists will perform works of Michael Haydn, Mozart and Dvorak.

Tickets to the event are $10/$5 for students and seniors and can be purchased here.
