Some familiar faces will take to the stage in September to put their special spin on the Bard’s legendary duo Romeo and Juliet. ";

A group of local celebrities will read excerpts from Romeo and Juliet next month.

It’s part of a cocktail party theatrical event called Delaware In Love - supporting of Delaware Shakespeare and the Del Shakes Community Tour.

“More and more the work of Delaware Shakespeare has really become focused on gathering the broadest possible mix of the community together to experience these plays and to celebrate our shared community,” said David Stradley the producing artistic director for Delaware Shakespeare.

He notes creative fundraising is needed so the community can experience these plays.

Delaware In Love will be held at the OperaDelaware Studios in Wilmington on Friday, September 20, 2019. Tickets can be purchased here.

Stradley says participants include former Governor Jack Markell and his wife Carla -- and Delaware Public Media Board member Drew Fennell and her wife Lisa Goodman.

And after the fundraiser, the Community Tour of Romeo and Juliet will perform at various locations across the First State - including prisons and homeless shelters.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
