Delaware Division of The Arts to host free accessibility program

Delaware Division of the Arts
The Delaware Division of The Arts hosts a free arts accessibility presentation Wednesday led by the National Endowment for The Arts.

The Delaware Division of the Arts is sponsoring a special presentation on arts accessibility on Wednesday.

“Accessibility Basics: Ensuring Access for Everyone” is the topic of Wednesday’s free presentation led by the National Endowment for The Arts.

“We’re just trying to educate people on ways in which, when you think about presenting or whatever the performance or exhibit, is just to try to do those little things so that everyone can enjoy The Arts and not just the people that we normally think about.” said Sheila Dean Ross, program officer for arts education and accessibility at the Delaware Division of The Arts.

Dean Ross says the NEA’s director of the Office of Accessibility - Dr. Beth Bienvenu will lead the presentation.  It will cover topics such as how arts organizations can consider the full range of audiences when developing accessibility plans and practical ways to improve access to all audiences.

"It might be that someone, an elderly person, can’t hear the music as well as a younger person or see,” said Dean Ross.

The presentation builds off this year’s Arts Summit theme: “Arts for All” and a workshop “Flourishing: The Art of Creative Aging,”

It’s from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Copeland Lecture Hall, Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
