NEA grants bolster DDOA, Summer in the Parks

Delaware Division of the Arts

Two Delaware arts organizations will receive $691,100 in federal funding.

The National Endowment for the Arts is sending the lion's share of the funding - $681,100 thousand to the Delaware Division of the Arts.

"The federal dollars we received, the $681,000, represents between 16-17 percent of our total budget," DDOA Director Paul Weagraff said.

Most of the money will be pumped into statewide arts groups.

The Grand Opera House received $10,000 in NEA funding for its Summer in the Parks program that brings dance, music, theater and visual arts events to city parks this summer.

"We work in collaboration with the City of Wilmington to provide free arts activities to the kids who come out to the parks on a daily basis throughout the week and throughout the summer," Director of Community Engagement Pamelyn Manocchio said.

The NEA funding runs through fiscal year 2018. But with the Trump Administration looking to trim or even eliminate the agency - future funding is up in the air.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
