Thursday is a big day for Shakespeare fans. It’s the Bard’s 453rd birthday. To celebrate, dozens of Delawareans will take to the stage performing snippets of his plays.

"Our theme for the day is 'Shakespeare for everyone.' So we have over 30 community volunteers who are going to come out and say a line from everyone of Shakespeare’s 38 plays in under an hour," Delaware Shakespeare's David Stradley said.

Dozens of elected officials, students, arts leaders, business owners and even journalists will channel their inner thespians for Shakespeare Day.

Yes there will be lines from Much Ado About Nothing, but much of Shakespeare's lesser known work will have just as much time on stage.

"All of them, Othello, Tempest, Romeo and Juliet. Even the one’s you haven’t heard of like Timon of Athens and Henry VI, Part 3," Stradley said.

The event is a partnership between Delaware Shakespeare, First State Heritage Park and the Biggs Museum.

It’s the first time it’s been held in Kent County.

The performance begins at noon April 20 on The Green in Dover.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
