Delaware Young Playwrights Festival finalists announced

Six young Delaware playwrights will see their works performed in Wilmington this Spring.

The Delaware Theatre Company has selected the finalists for its 2015-2016 Delaware Young Playwrights Festival.

The finalists will participate in a series of playwriting workshops with professional theatre artists to polish their writing and ready their works for a public showcase on the DTC stage.

This year's festival began in September with a kickoff workshop for Delaware teachers and students in grades 8-12. From there, 68 plays were written by 97 students representing thirteen different Delaware high schools.

Now in its fifth year of a relaunch, the Delaware Young Playwrights Festival invites high school students to write a play based on a theme inspired by one of Delaware Theatre Company's productions. This year's theme was inspired by a quotation from “The Explorers Club” which will be produced and presented by the DTC in April and May.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
