80’s pop icon Howard Jones performs in Delaware Thursday

Howard Jones plays the Queen Theatre in Wilmington Thursday

In the mid 80’s, Howard Jones had five top 10 songs on the pop charts including “What Is Love?” and “Things Can Only Get Better.”

As one of the defining figures of synth pop, Howard Jones has become synonymous with a certain genre and era of music. But the musician, now 60, has had a robust career for thirty years now.

He’s scored music for films, had success as a songwriter for other artists in the 1990s and played keyboards in 2001 with Ringo Starr’s All-Star Band.

Most recently Jones released a multimedia CD/DVD called “Engage,” and on Thursday, the musician brings his solo piano tour to World Cafe Live at the Queen in Wilmington.

Jones says it’s an opportunity for him to tell the stories behind the songs.

“And to be able to explain a bit more about what went into the song and why I wrote it and what I was trying to achieve with it is actually a nice experience for me and hopefully for the audience,” he says.

Howard Jones plays the World Cafe Live at the Queen in Wilmington Thursday night. Doors open at 6:30 and showtime is at 8.
