Delaware’s Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Richard Callery has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
Department of Health and Social Services issued a statement Friday afternoon announcing Callery’s suspension as of Tuesday.
Hal Brown, deputy director of the office, will assume control of the agency.
DHSS spokeswoman Jill Fredel says she can’t comment over whether the investigation is linked to alleged compromised drug evidence processed by the state Controlled Substances Lab as it involves a personnel matter.
Earlier this month, Delaware State Police and the Attorney General’s Office began investigating the agency over drug evidence, which had reportedly been tampered with, missing or substituted.
That case remains ongoing.
