First portion of Delmarva Power rate hike approved

Delaware’s Public Service Commission has approved the first installment of a 42 million dollar rate increase sought by Delmarva Power.

In a unanimous vote, the Commission approved a 1.1 million dollars rate hike to go toward replacing its customers’ analog meters with energy-saving smart meters.

The meters will allow the utility to read customers’ meters remotely and allow Delmarva to know when power has been restored after an outage. Collection from ratepayers begins January 1st.
